These are the options for the best senior living in Williamsburg, Virginia. Whether you’re thinking of yourself or your aging parents, there are a lot of different options available for every budget and every unique situation. As a popular retirement destination, Williamsburg has a lot to offer. Whether you’ve always lived in Williamsburg or you are looking for the perfect spot to spend your retirement, there are solid options for senior living in Williamsburg, VA.
Williamsburg has a number of luxury communities with a variety of different amenities, often pretty closely approximating what you’d find in an assisted living or senior-oriented development. Maybe you’re at a point where you’re looking for something a little more along those traditional lines, or you’re anticipating a point in the future when you or your loved ones will need a little help in their day to day life. Maybe it’s time to look at options geared specifically towards seniors.
Fortunately for you and your loved ones, assisted living or senior communities have come a long way in recent years – and, in Williamsburg, it’s probably safe to say that they’re more luxurious and desirable than the average options available in other places. Let’s look at some of the best options available in Williamsburg:
WindsorMeade
As far as senior living communities go, WindsorMeade is excellent. It features a number of different levels of living – from fully independent living to skilled nursing. It also boasts a memory care unit, as well as rehabilitation services.
WindsorMeade Housing
WindsorMeade is one of the newer full-service retirement communities. If you are accustomed to a certain standard of living, WindsorMeade definitely delivers. Residents there live in villas (up to 3,300 square feet) and apartments (up to 1,900 square feet), which boast a number of modern conveniences and beautiful craftsmanship. There are a number of different floor plans from which to choose, options to include plenty of storage, room for visiting family and friends, two car garages, and plenty of colonial charm.
WindsorMeade Amenities
Pretty much everything is included, too. Not unlike a college campus, Windsor Meade has flexible dining options that allow you to switch between different dining venues. Services on the property from trash pickup to light housekeeping weekly are included in the monthly fee. Transportation to and from local activities is also included, so you’ll never be sitting bored around the house. Not only that, but the community itself is incredibly pedestrian-friendly, and has miles of walking paths for you to explore.
Spring Arbor Senior Living
Spring Arbor Housing
Spring Arbor is another one of the best senior living facilities in Williamsburg. The community for seniors offers assisted living and memory care. Residents there can choose from studio, one bedroom, or two bedroom apartments, all designed with maximum independence in mind. There are several floor plans from which to choose, but each apartment includes a walk in shower, spacious storage, and emergency response units.
Spring Arbor Amenities
The real charm at Spring Arbor is in the shared living spaces, from the gazebo to the grilling area and the sunroom, so that residents there can entertain visiting friends and family as well as connect with other residents. It has a cozy, home-like feel and is definitely worthy of consideration.
Colonial Heritage
Some folks look for camaraderie and to surround themselves with others in their same life stage. Colonial Heritage is a gated community located in Williamsburg only for active adults over the age of 55; it’s not a nursing home or assisted living facility at all! It’s a lifestyle community and therefore I consider it one of the choices for best senior living in Williamsburg.
Colonial Heritage Amenities
At Colonial Heritage, homes start in the mid $300s, and go up from there. The emphasis here really is on “active”. The property boasts the only Arthur Hills designed 18 hole golf course in Williamsburg; it’s close to Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, high end shopping, and more. There’s also an aquatic center on the property as well as a clubhouse, dining room, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and more.
Colonial Heritage Housing
At Colonial Heritage, there are three different “collections” which feature a variety of homes at different price points and with different floor plans; the three collections are Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown.
The Williamsburg Collection features homes from $365,990, and the homes there are single family homes on a single level with covered patios. Two different floor plans are available. The Jamestown Collection starts at $442,990, and offers three different floor plans – some with, and some without, basements. The Yorktown Collection offers three different floor plans, and starts at $485,990 – also including covered patios, basement options, and more.
Williamsburg Landing
Williamsburg Landing Amenities
Williamsburg Landing is another planned community that has options to suit almost every potential resident – from several ‘neighborhoods’ with homes and apartments of varying sizes for active seniors who are living independently, to assisted living and even skilled nursing care. It offers activities such as transport to classes at The College of William & Mary, bocce and tennis (among other sports and fitness activities), bible studies, and volunteerism opportunities.
Williamsburg Landing Housing
Compared with many of the other options in Williamsburg, the homes and apartments at Williamsburg Landing are significantly larger. Apartments range from 1,810 to 1,900 square feet, and single family homes ranging from 1,400 square feet to 2,600 square feet, with at least 17 different floor plans. Furnishings, too, vary between the different options available with some more traditional and others on the more contemporary side, but all luxurious and comfortable.
If you’re not really looking to downsize but are looking for some more hands on help (with the ability to move to different levels of care at some point in the future), Williamsburg Landing is a great option.
Senior Living Option: Aging In Place in Williamsburg, VA
I’m not really ready for assisted living or‘independent’ senior living in Williamsburg, VA. I want to stay in my house or just move to a regular house that is a little more accessible.
Some of the best senior living in Williamsburg isn’t a facility at all…..it’s having resources to live and make changes to your own home, also known as “aging in place”. I know lots of folks who shirk at the term “senior” because they feel that the word in and of itself ages them. Many people want to stay at home and not move to a senior community. They feel safest in their own home, surrounded by long time neighbors and the familiarity of the quirks of the home they have lived in for decades. Maybe you are still a mover and a shaker, but you are looking toward the future and trying to get ahead of problems.
Perhaps the home presents challenges for the future; the stairs have become problematic after a knee replacement, the doorways are too narrow for the wheelchair or walker mom or dad needs, stepping into a bathtub to shower now creates a fall hazard. There are things we can discuss to retrofit your home and options for additional help as you may see fit. Senior living options in Williamsburg, VA is not just limited to a facility or a senior neighborhood.
If that’s the case and you want to know options to make life a little easier where you are, there are other resources to consider.
